Community School History

The Morris School District serves the communities of Morristown and Morris Township (pre-K through high school) and Morris Plains (grades 9-12) by providing a supportive and challenging educational environment for a total student population of approximately 5,500.

Within the District there is one preschool, three primary schools (K-2), three intermediate schools (3-5), one multi-age magnet school (K-5), one middle school (6-8), and one high school.

In addition to our preK-12 program, for more than 30 years, the Morris School District has operated an innovative Community School that offers an extensive adult school curriculum for lifelong learners in Morristown, Morris Plains, and surrounding areas (mailing distribution list of 46,000+ households).

The Community School also provides a nurturing before- and after-school childcare program, Sunrise/Sunset, for Morris School District children of busy parents, as well as our Summer Plus program for six weeks each summer.

Recognizing that learning is a lifelong process involving the acquisition of new knowledge, skills, and attitudes, the Morris School District through its Community School, endeavors to offer all community members--regardless of age, sex, color, or creed--opportunities to participate in educational, vocational, diversional, physical, and social programs.

It is hoped that such participation will satisfy the basic need we all have to extend our experiences and knowledge.
