Great Horizons History

The Morris School District Community School launched the Great Horizons program in the fall of 2011. Great Horizons' purpose was to fill a void in adult daytime educational opportunities available to the retired, workers in transition, stay-at-home parents, or others interested in continuing their education.

Prior to the founding of Great Horizons, there were no school districts in Morris County offering this type of program.

Our program objectives are as follows:

  • Create a learning experience that promotes critical thinking

  • Provide participants with a chance to meet people with shared interests and establish social connections

  • Fill an educational need in the Morristown/Morris Plains, NJ area that was not being met previously

Great Horizons offered 15 classes during the 2011 fall semester.  Since that time the course offerings have quadrupled with 60 classes offered for the fall of 2016.

We are proud of our accomplishments and look forward to sharing the future with you!
